"A great way to poison yourself" 2009-10-04
By Foley (Canada)
I've had the blender for about a year and used it extensively over the first couple of months, then not for much of the summer. The unit was cleaned thoroughly as per the instructions after each use. I just went to use it again and found that the food that I blended had been sucked into the blender shaft earlier in the year, and is rotting. A greenish-grey foul-smelling sludge leaks out of the blender unit - and there seems to be no way to clean it out. Further, the rotting sludge oozes out the motor end and the mating cavity of the motor end is now filled with mould. This is a serious health hazard, and users should be wary.

"Kitchenaid Hand Blender - Onyx Black" 2009-09-13
By Capt. GG (Ret.) (Sewickley, PA USA)
This has the usual KitchenAid high quality we've come to expect. Sure, the specs were given, but without getting out a ruler or tape measure I wasn't able to correctly picture the size of this mixer in my mind. It is quite large, especially when compared to the Braun I was replacing, making the KitcheAide a bit large and "unwieldy" to use. It surely does the job, and the variable speeds are great. It's a fine product!

"It quit after the second use" 2009-05-21
By Shallena Crounse (loma linda, ca)
This blender was on my wish list, and since I knew that it cost fifty dollars, I thought it would work.

I used it as directed, (nothing too hard or too frozen and not too much food at once), and it would not work after the second use.

Garbage. :(

"Good Product - Still Evaluating" 2009-01-15
By Louise Bell (Ohio)
So far, I like this blender. It is very easy to use and to clean. Today, I made two smoothies with one banana, one apple, three small oranges and a little apple juice. The fruit was cut into chunks/quartered. After the fruit was blended, it was more like a puree which is what I expected. That is why I added a little apple juice.

The beaker has measurements along the side, which is nice but the numbers are hard to read. Apparently, you cannot buy the other attachments for this version of the blender. I did not know that because now that I have it, I would like to purchase the whisk attachment. It seems odd to me that a company would develop something like this but not so that customers could buy the additional attachments.

Added Note: I've used the blender a couple more times. Because of the shape of the blender attachment, it can stand alone in the mixture. I was able to stand the blender in the beaker, while I stepped away to get other ingredients. That was helpful.

"Kitchen Aid Quality Control lacking" 2008-12-14
By C. Mendoza (San Diego)
We purchased this blender thinking the quality would be higher than lower priced models. While it seems good to detach the blade for cleaning, who really cares? They are easy enough to clean, taking off the end is really just a nuisance. We immediately notices that the switch seemed poorly designed and somewhat difficult to use. It failed after a year of moderate use. Even under warranty, it costs more in shipping and handling than getting another one, so that's what we're doing. We had similar issues with a Kitchen Aid blender in the past. They seem solid, but have weaknesses in some small but critical part that kills them, seemingly by design. Then you have to decide if you want to go the trouble replacing the whole unit with another one that will fail early the same way. Why would you replace a poorly designed appliance with the same thing?
