This is our second hand held blender. The first one died too early, but we liked using it so much for our morning smoothies that we bought another. This one is working ok, but like other reviewers stated, the rubber seal came loose and trapped food. The seal is not removable because of the blades. Food gets in the shaft and is next-to-impossible to clean. The seal was just loose enough to trap food, and not noticeable at first. By the time we noticed it, food had dried was stuck about 1/4" up the shaft. We still use it, but it requires tedious methods to clean and keep sanitary. We're hoping Kitchenaid addresses this issue in subsequent models. It's a great blender, but buyer beware.

Everyone who makes soups should have this handy kitchen tool. Instead of waiting for the soup to cool so that you can use your blender on soups that need blending, you can proceed with this step while it is hot and right in the cooking pan. An incredible time and cleanup saver. It is a little bit heavy, but no heavier than a hand mixer.

Ordered the Hand Blender without problems... Product arrived ahead of schedule... Blender neatly packed in a styrofoam fitted box... Used all dial settings using soups, stocks & sauces [great results from purees to slightly chunky]... Cleaning is a snap since: the blending attachment can be separated from the motor body, dunked into soapy water, and dried off in the drain rack. Actually I paid more than I wanted but... I got more than what I paid for... It's a really cool device for those pea soup fans who make their own... All in all, I'm a happy camper!!! - Teo

This is, quite literally, the best hand blender/mixer ever.
Pros:
Has lots of power (torque) so even the thickest stuff gets blended up very well. I just used it for mashed potatoes (which I prefer thick!) and it didn't even hesitate.
Lots of extensions you can get for it too, to accomplish different things.
Very high quality and seems like it will be durable. Based on other KitchenAid appliances, I expect it to last a long time.
Cons:
It doesn't have variable speed
Pricey, as are the extensions

Pro: liquifies cooked food very well.
Con: heavy, has a short cord
Last straw: the rubber seal around the blade shaft came loose and allows food to get in underneath. Its impossible to clean now so I can't use it, even though it is still working. I've only had it a year or so.
I will not be buying a KitchenAid replacement.
